Eugene C. Pyun
Welcome!
I am an Assistant Professor of Innovation Strategy at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. I received my PhD degree in Management Department at the University of Texas at Austin with concentration of Strategy. My reserach interests consist of innovation, technology strategy, technological ecosystems, and standardization in innovation-driven contexts.
My dissertation examines the constraining effect of standardization on innovation within ecosystem in the Formula One industry. Using the theoretical lens of knowledge recombination, I argue that standardization can stifle firms' knowledge recombination process. I utilize machine learning-based topic modeling to capture innovation in F1 cars' technological components and how they are constrained by standardization.
I earned my B.A in Economics and Political Science with Degree Honors and General Honors at the University of Chicago and M.S in Management from the University of Texas at Austin and Seoul National University. Prior to my graduate studies, I worked at tax policy department of OECD Policy Centre.
